Math is not separate from Torah, on the contrary every letter in the Torah represents a number and every word can be decoded into specific numbers that relate to particular meanings.
The reading of these letters is called Gematria. This miracle shows us the precision and beauty of the Torah; within the Torah exists everything. The Torah is comprised of Mathematical formulas that we can only begin to understand. At the same time, Torah is simple and wise, enabling all Jews to be submersed in its teachings. There is much opportunity to use the teachings of the Torah to incorporate math in the Jewish Montessori classroom.
In a Jewish Montessori environment math is presented in a fun and interesting way by using concrete materials, helping children develop concrete to abstract.
Children first learn to count to ten, and systematically progress to solving complex addition, subtraction, multiplication and division questions.
